Bio

I grew up in Dublin but have lived in Cahersiveen, Kerry for a large part of my adult life, where my mother was born. My mosaic journey really began 15 years ago when I learnt the traditional Italian method of mosaicing with the hammer and hardie, in Italy. My work to date includes commercial commissions (shop signs), abstract external pieces, floor inserts and wall art.

I love the process of working with small tesserae and placing them together. My three styles are Classical, Organic and Artisanal. The Classical method is influenced by the byzantine era, the Organic method uses organic material and the Artisanal is hand made.  I enjoy abstract work as my work can evolve from the design stage to working instinctively: depending on the material, colour palette, flow of terrerae and how the light reflects on them.  

 I find inspiration can be found wherever I look, whether on the mountains in Kerry, the wild hedgerows or in peoples faces. I have had the privilege of travelling to many places and these experiences influence my work. Thank you for taking the time to view my work, Deborah
